Summer Break is here! Now what? It is a wonderful part of the year for educators! It’s time to reflect, learn, rest, and appreciate your craft! This is a fun and exciting video but reminds us that the summer break goes by really fast! So take advantage of the time to improve yourself and not wait to the last minute to get prepared for the upcoming school year! Saying that, wrapping up the year on a positive note will help you going into the break. Any unfinished business with paperwork, administration or preparation need to be handled before you lock your classroom door on the final day you leave school. 1. I usually take June as my month to unwind after that I am back on the grind. I am in my classroom the first week of July trying to purge, clean, and decorate for the next set of students I am going to receive for the school year. I never wait until the last minute.

    1. I do the same thing. I take a break in June and the first week in July. I am also a volleyball coach so my schedule in the summer is always busy. Before school starts, I try to complete two units of lesson plans.

  2. I usually do the same thing. I rest for the month of June and first week of July. I try my best to complete at least 2 units of lesson plans for each class. I also coach volleyball, so the summer is already busy.

  3. One change that I have made the last 3 years or so is to make it a point to NOT do any “school work” until the last week of June. During that week, I try to get several weeks of plans done, and then I leave it alone until the last week before we go back to school.

  4. This made me giggle! My district is on a modified school year which means we only get 5 weeks for summer. We get 3 weeks in October and 2 weeks in March. On those breaks the students are offered intersession classes to help with any deficits and enrichment classes are also offered. I love the October break. It is a great time to get to vacation wihout places being over crowded, but “summer” break seems to fly by!
